FAQ

Life can be puzzling at times, and we are all searching for answers in some aspect or another. This isn’t a column dispensing haiku of sage wisdom. It simply contains a list of typical questions and answers regarding this site.

Favorite software?

I use whatever gets the job done on Windows, Mac or Ubuntu. The programs I use range from pricey to free of charge. Here is what I would recommend:

  Windows Mac Ubuntu
Code Notepad++ TextMate Bluefish
FTP FileZilla Transmit gFTP
Graphics Fireworks Fireworks GIMP
Localhost WAMP MAMP XAMPP
Office OpenOffice NeoOffice OpenOffice
Wireframes Visio OmniGraffle Kivio

Do you offer advice?

Yes, but the sheer volume of email got to be so overwhelming that myself and several other Christian web developers started a site entirely devoted to helping the Church with web standards. You can request critiques and feedback on the Godbit Project forum: Website Feedback Area.

Do you teach web-dev?

No, but I did when I worked for Asbury Seminary. Not to worry though. Once your site is created, we can schedule a conference time via Skype, covering basic content editing. This is done once your site is running on a flexible CMS such as ExpressionEngine or Textpattern.

We need a webmaster.

Sorry, but I don’t have the luxury of that much free time. Each site I create must be able to out-live my help in order to be effective. My sincere hope is that you learn to maintain it on your own. It’s like the old saying goes:

Give a man a fish, and he will only eat for a day…
Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime.

What’s with the name?

I’d like to say that it was divine revelation, but the name is actually the result of a process of trial and error. Most of the domain names that originally came to mind were already registered. Finally, SonSpring was decided upon because it symbolizes glorifying Christ who is our well-spring of life.
