Workspace Showcase

Well, we finally got most of our stuff unpacked in our new home, and I was able to locate my digital camera. So, for those of you who were wondering what the desk at my new job looks like, here it is. The second photo is of our home office, with our laptops and a new 19 inch LGE monitor I got recently.
If anyone else would like to show off their home / work office, feel free. You can use Textile markup to add them in the comments below. Just make sure to keep the pixel width to 450, or it will get cutoff by my indiscriminate overflow: hidden. If you need help adding an image, the syntax is simple:

I work from home… here’s mine! (only new difference is i added some drawers in front of the IKEA lamp)
Gives another meaning to “corner office.” ;-) Click on the pic for tagged goodness.

Very nice setup Lea. I’m diggin’ the lamp, pretty cool! I think we might have the same desk chair. After looking at Garret’s photos, I think I have the same model of work chair, just in a light green. I feel like such an interior designer! Anyone else got home / work office pictures?

Love what you’ve done with the place. That wife of yours has done you good buddy. I remember what your room looked like back at WSU. Stinky…
Well, check out my little office up here in Tacoma, WA.

I have been looking to buy one of that exact monitor (the LGE). How is yours working out for you. I have thought they were amazing since they came out, and the price has come down quite a bit. Looks like a prime time to buy at this point.
Sweet swivel monitors in the office also.

Mike: That's a nice setup you've got there. I love the empty desk in the corner all by itself. I have that same problem with CD cases, as I store all of mine in big Case Logic zipper notebooks. I usually just give the cases away when I make CD's for friends.
Wesley: I’ve loved the monitor so far. I didn’t shell out for the super high-end one, though it was tempting. The one I have has dual VGA and DVI input.
I’ve got my laptop hooked up to one, and am going to use the other for a Mac Mini. There’s a native toggle-switch on the monitor itself, which is really nice. And, the monitor can be mounted on the wall, if you don’t want the base. It also has two USB ports on the back, so you can hook to the monitor directly.

I posted a picture of my workspace a few weeks ago, to show off my brand new monitor (already had one, just bought it’s twin ;)

You guys have some pretty clean and nice desks and computer setups. Man you all put my setup and desk to shame. Anyway since we are all sharing I might as well show mine.

Ryan: Sweet setup, nice Mac Mini too. I’m wondering, is it possible to buy just the wireless keyboard for the Mini? I’ve already got a two-button Bluetooth mouse I’d rather use.
Yannick: That setup ain’t bad. You should give yourself more credit. That’s a crazy big printer you got, I’m jealous. I think these posting your desk memes are good, because it forces people to clean up their desks. :)
#10 Yannick
Nathan: Thanks. Yeah the printer is a decent size. It’s an HP LaserJet 1000 series but it only prints in B&W. But I guess that is all we really need in the house so it’s all good.
And yes, these memes are good at getting people to clean up. Thanks for the extra push to GCD.
#11 Nathan Smith
GCD, nice. That’s the type of printer I want, something big, clunky and reliable. In my opinion, color printers for general consumers are a waste of time. They never turn out as high-quality as you’d like, and both the black and color cartridges hold barely any ink. I want a solid B+W printer, and will go to Kinkos if I really need good color stuff done.
#12 Yannick
Yup for most of my printing needs, colour is unnecessary and constantly having to change either the black or the colour cartridge or sometimes both gets a bit annoying. The printer we have very rarely needs to change cartridges and we do quite a bit of printing too.
The only prob we have with the printer is that when it does get a paper jam (which isn’t that often) or we have to change ink cartridges the front panel is hard to open to get inside to take out the paper. At times I feel like I might break it off. hehe
But let me not go off-topic anymore. The desk that my computer is on actually is a lot longer than the portion shown in the picture. So I have an area to do other work on when I’m not working on the computer. Comes in handy but makes me feel like I can push/put papers and books all over it, thus leaving it messy. Time to GCD the whole desk and not just the computer portion of it.

I cleaned my office just so this picture would look better. At least now my wife will quit bugging me about the dirty office.
Here is my main desk!

Hopefully before too long I can replace that CRT with an LCD screen. :)
Here is my other desk!

One is my employee computer, the other is connected to my Linux & Windows Servers.
#14 Ryan Brill
Yes, you should be able to use the Apple wireless keyboard with your existing mouse without a problem. I was doing so before I bought the Apple mouse…
#15 Nathan Smith
Brent, nice setup. Gotta love having your desk in front of a window. I didn’t know how much it helps to have natural light, and just a way to see nature. Good for getting your mind off code, and why IE won’t do what you want it to!
Ryan: Cool, thanks. I’d originally bought a Kensington Bluetooth mouse for use with my laptop, but Windows PC’s don’t handle Bluetooth very well. I would have to use the touch-pad to enable the mouse every time I turned the computer on. It got so annoying I went out and bought a Microsoft travel mouse.

Ok Nathan, I caved. Picture of the world headquarters can be seen here

Its not like you can’t see this from where you sit, but here it is anyways.
#18 Mark Priestap
Nice set up Nathan. We have the exact same desk from IKEA. :)
May God bless you in your new home.
#19 Nathan Smith
Cody: That workspace looks very similar, but I can't place it.
Mark, thanks! That’s cool you have the same one. This desk seems to be pretty popular. Another coworker of mine has this model too. At first, it seemed a bit pricey. However, considering that you can essentially use it as two desks in one, it’s pretty economical. The only drawback is, it’s a bit fragile. Then again, so was the old particleboard desk we had before.
#20 beth
My work just got that same office set up! (The flat panel swivel arms, and free standing seat/file cabinet) Do you have the swing-out whiteboards too? And I can’t tell, is that an Aeron chair I spy?
#21 Nathan Smith
Beth, that’s cool. It’s a very handy furniture system. Yes, we’ve got the swinging whiteboards (though I myself don’t). I’m not sure if our chairs are genuine Aeron, but they do look like they could be. They’re also very comfortable. :)
#22 Nathan Smith
Beth, I just found out that these chairs are made by Herman Miller. I went to see Serenity this week, and noticed one of the chairs snuck in as a movie prop, used by Mr. Universe – cool beans.
