This fall is shaping up to include a whirlwind of speaking engagements. I figured I should do a bit of shameless self promotion and make mention of them here.
Dallas, TX — Aug. 14-16
As I mentioned in a previous blog post – Next month, I will be speaking at the Echo Conference. Along with my friend Christian Bradford, I will be teaching a breakout session entitled Triple Code Crunch, covering the essentials of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Topics will include jQuery, YUI and the 960 Grid System, plus core concepts like accessibility, semantics, microformats — and more!
Atlanta, GA — Oct. 3-4
I will be speaking at Webmaster Jam Session in Atlanta, GA on October 3rd – 4th. My presentation is themed Striking a Balance: Middle Ground in Front-End Development. Here is a snippet of the official description from the site.
In the world of building web sites and applications, there will always be tension between opposing forces. One often wrestles with issues such as: Web Standards vs. Flash, business objectives vs. real-world possibilities, and the age-old designer vs. developer tension. Nathan Smith will outline his philosophy and techniques for achieving balance in that gray area between idealism and implementation. He will also share some of his code tips and design insights, gleaned while working at Viewzi.
As a cool aside, one of the conference organizers emailed and let me know that the WJS site itself is sporting a 16 column variant of the 960 Grid System.
San Francisco, CA — Nov. 16-19
Last but not least, I have been invited to speak at Adobe MAX. My session is slated as Designing Websites with HTML + CSS In Mind. To get a feel for what it will be like, check out my article on Adobe Dev Center. I will be covering how to use Fireworks CS4 to expedite work-flow in web design and development. I will also explain how this works in conjunction with the 960 Grid System.
